19th February 2008

Esprit’s Elite gymnasts continue to impress, this time at the National Duets and Trio Championships in Burton-on-Trent.
The National Duets and Trio’s Championships is a unique event that bring together the country’s top gymnasts, to compete in pairs or in groups of 3, working in synchronised and complimentary routines.

The gymnasts are split into age groups and Esprit’s exceptional young athletes dominated every section they were eligible to enter, winning medals in every group.

In the UNDER 10 Duet recently crowned under 9 British Champion, Gabriela Caruso teamed up with club mate Freya Wilcock to win gold and become National Champions in their age group, impressing the crowd with a well deserved 8.330. They were followed by team mates Tayshan Dowe and Ellie Morse who took the Silver with another great score of 6.900, making it a fabulous one/two for the Stratton based club

UNDER 12 Duets saw an exciting battle for top spot, with Esprit’s Hannah Curtis and Great Britain squad member Alicia Veveris taking a brilliant Silver with 7.600, closely behind the City of Bath gymnasts Caitlin Brennan and Sarah Dennis who scored 7.883.

The Junior Duet saw Esprit’s 2 Great Britain team members and British Championship gold medal winners Jade Faulkner and Laura Halford take the clubs second Silver of the day with 10.433, in another close fought contest. This time against City of Cantebury gymnasts Kezi Gore and Joanna Matcham who scored 11.433. This result was made even more impressive by Laura stepping up an age group to partner Junior Jade.

In the Trio event the young under 10’s from Esprit continued their winning form with a fantastic win and yet another GOLD for the Stratton based club. Gabriela Caruso, Ellie Morse and Freya Wilcock performed a stunning routine to score 10.167 and get the result over Cantebury’s impressive 8.983.

The Junior Trio saw Laura Halford step up in age again to join Esprit’s brilliant Juniors Jade Faulkner and Micia Falaki. They didn’t let the side down securing the clubs final Gold of the day with a very impressive 10.167, securing the title ahead of the trio from City of Cantebury with 8.983.

Club Chairman, Mark Hows said, “it is difficult to put in to words just how well the girls have done for Swindon and their club, yet again competing and winning at the highest level. Congratulations must go to the girls and of course the exceptional coaching team who teach them, especially Deb Hows, the head of Rhythmic coaching at Esprit. They all continue to be an inspiration for the young athletes at the club”.
