Scotland welcomes Esprit Gymnasts
8th May 2008

Scottish Gymfest, Irvine 2008

Following on from the outstanding success of the Scottish Gymfest in 2007, 22 of Esprit’s top gymnasts were invited to participate in this year’s event in Irvine, Scotland.

A growing branch of the sport of gymnastics this dynamic and non-competitive discipline combines both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics along with amazing modern dance set to music. According to team coach Cherie Skeats it is an amazing sport, great fun and exceptionally beneficial to the gymnasts. It helps improve performance and social skills, as it is essential that the group work together as a close-knit team. All those involved do so for the pure love of the sport of gymnastics and to support their team-mates.

With hundreds of participants taking part at the Gymfest, including some amazing routines from disabled and special needs groups and thousands of spectators over the two days, this annual festival of gymnastics ensured Scotland got to see some of the very best from the UK’s gymnasts.
During the weekend the Esprit team did 2 performances in front of the packed house and received extremely positive feedback about the quality of their performances. However travelling for 10 hours to Irvine in Scotland then performing hard, didn’t dent their enthusiasm and they still found enough energy to go swimming watch other teams performances and dance the night away at the event disco.

Cherie said, “Display gymnastics really does show how beneficial the sport of gymnastics is and it a fantastic way of ensuring the older gymnasts stay involved in sport. The older girls helped the younger ones get ready for the performances, made sure all the hair and make up was perfect and ensured everyone was in the right place at the correct time. They were a real credit to the club”.

The gymnasts themselves said they thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, it was extremely well organised, very friendly and the atmosphere, performing in front of the massive crowd, was amazing. Other highlights were watching the other performances’, the disco, spending the weekend with their gym friends and making new friends from all over the UK.

“They even appeared to enjoy the 9 hour coach trip each way” concluded Cherie.
