17 Esprit gymnasts make the grade for top Swindon club
Swindon is fast becoming ‘the town to beat’ when it comes to discovering gymnastic talent and the recent grading competition held at Melksham’s lottery funded, Wiltshire School of gymnastics was no exception.
The town’s Stratton based club, Esprit Gymnastics, sent along 17 gymnasts they were confident could pass their respective grades, but it was hoped a couple may even pass with the highest mark, a distinction. However no one quite expected the level of success the young gymnasts, all aged between 7 and 12, achieved.
Head coach at Esprit, Katy Trussell said, “we were confident the girls could all pass their grade and we did hope a couple may get into the medals, but what they all achieved was amazing. Out of 17 gymnasts an incredible 16 passed with the highest grade possible, a distinction. Out of those 17, no less than 12 returned with medals, 5 Golds, 3 Silvers and 4 Bronze and if their teammates hadn’t already won them there would have surely been more for these exceptional young athletes”.
Katy continued, “Esprit gymnasts continue to prove them selves at all levels of competition, only this last week the club hosted the Wiltshire Schools competition and is due to hold the Swindon Schools competition in Spring next year. In contrast to this the club has also just sent no less than 10 gymnasts to the British Rhythmic Championships and has several in the GB team competing internationally. It truly is a club for all levels and ability.
The young girls who competed in Melksham are at the start of what can become a wonderfully fulfilling life as a gymnast.” She concluded, “they are already proving themselves to be hard working and dedicated young people, we are very proud of them all”.
