A trip to National Group final pays dividends for Esprit Gymnasts

Last weekend saw several gymnasts from the Esprit Gymnastics Academy in Stratton on their travels again, this time to the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton-on-Trent, for the National Group Championships. This event covers a growing part of the sport of gymnastics, where the girls are competing as a team rather than individually.

The object of the competition is to ensure the groups work together in a synchronised routine, which is made even harder by them having to incorporate rhythmic apparatus into their gymnastics.

The girls from Esprit, consisting of Louise Holman, Gemma Rand, Hannah Curtis, Micia Falaki, April Coombs and Maya Lucas, competed in the Junior Section and performed a clubs routine to excellent effect, to win yet another National medal for their club. The result a fantastic Silver was only a short way behind the City of Birmingham and ahead of the Rhythmic South club and was Esprit’s first entry into the event at this level.

Club spokesman, Mark Hows said, “We are always looking at ways to ensure the gymnasts gain high-level competition experience and that is exactly what they got, with an outstanding level of routines being performed by gymnasts from all over the country.

National Championships are an excellent way for the gymnasts to prove themselves and the clubs who sent teams to this event have some of the very best gymnasts in the country, to achieve the results our girls did really is impressive.

To achieve what they have, at the first attempt, is testament to their ability and the excellent training provided at Esprit. We are exceptionally pleased the girls did so well”.
