Rhythmic gymnast Alicia Veveris wins in Gibraltar

Swindon gymnasts Alicia Veveris and Micia Falaki, both flew to Gibraltar recently as a result of an invitation to their club from the Gibraltar Rhythmic Gymnastics Association to attend the inaugural Gibralter Cup.

Stratton based Esprit Gymnastics accepted the invitation and selected GB team member Alicia and team mate Micia to attend as representatives of the club to compete against some of Europe’s top up and coming gymnasts from Spain, Portugal, England, Scotland, Wales and of course Gibraltar.

It was a fantastic setting for a high profile event and the beautiful weather and monkey’s made the trip even more enjoyable, especially for Micia who was making her debut at an International competition.

And the girls certainly didn’t disappoint, with Micia performing exceptionally well at this level and Alicia, who is an experienced competitor, winning her section outright.

Alicia won a Gold medal in the Rope section and followed it up with Silver in Hoop, to claim the overall title and impressive trophy.

The girls coach Deb Hows, who joined them on the trip, was very pleased with them, the way in which they performed and conducted themselves as excellent ambassadors for the club and sport of gymnastics. “It is certainly an event we would be happy to attend again as the hosts were exceptionally friendly and accommodating”.
