Display Divas

If you missed Esprit Gymnastics 21 December Christmas Display at the Ridgeway Sports Centre in Wroughton, you missed a real treat. Nearly 300 Mum’s, Dad’s, Brothers, Sisters and other proud relatives and well-wishers watched an amazing display of young talent from the Esprit gymnasts. It was not difficult to see why Esprit gymnasts have brought home so many medals from competitions in the last year!

There were lots of different stalls selling all sorts of great stuff and keeping guests topped up with cake and beverages. The calendars sold out and they even had a bulk order of t-shirts, water bottles and leotards from an anonymous person in the ‘North Pole’! Whatever next?
Esprit dad, Mark Curtis, did a great job videoing the event and they hope to be able to put some shots on the Esprit website. The parents v gymnasts Superstars competition was fab, and even hilarious in places. There was always only ever going to be one winning team – the gymnasts obviously – but at least the parents had a good go. Some of them were even quite good - Mrs Shimwell’s Hula and Dave Halford’s handstand were just some examples. 9 year old, Chloe Craig and her dad Mark showed that talent must run in the family and it may have even shamed some of the crowd into renewing that gym subscription in the New Year!

For the finale Becky Jose, the 4 times British Champion and Commonwealth Gold medallist gave a fantastic display. She performed two perfect routines including a Free she only recently choreographed herself. It is hard to imagine a better inspiration for the gymnasts who were amazed by her skill and flair. Becky was an inspiration and proved why she is the most successful rhythmic gymnast Britain has ever had. She helped warm up the gymnasts, gave them encouragement, answered questions, got stared at by a few who were totally star-struck, signed loads of autographs and then had her picture taken with each of her fans, giving them a memory they will be able to keep forever. Becky is a great ambassador for the sport of gymnastics and organisers say she will always be welcome at Esprit.

The Display Day was a great start for the hardworking fundraising committee, The ‘Friends of Esprit’. They managed to raise nearly £800 which will buy gymnasts a portable ballet bar and lots and lots of new mats to cover the floor.
