Gymnasts
triumph at top Regional competition – 14 July 2003
Esprit
Academy gymnasts excelled recently at the National Grades
Competition held at Kemp Welch gym club in Pool, Dorset
on 13 July 2003. More than 130 gymnasts from all over the
South of England competed in the grade 5 & 6 competition
and every single esprit gymnast, still competing under the
Ridgeway banner, passed with flying colours, an excellent
result for all of the children, every one of them in the
top half of an enormous entry.
Victoria
Sutton (7) from Wanborough was 6th overall in her age group,
Courtney Hows (8) from Wroughton was 10th overall in hers
and Lucilia Barrand who competed in the grade 4 competition
came 11th overall and scored an incredible 9.65 for her
range and conditioning, the highest score of the whole day.
What
makes these results so spectacular is the fact that the
few children who scored higher marks than the esprit gymnasts
are all from dedicated gymnastic schools that are able to
offer specialised training. Katy Smith head Artistic coach
of esprit (Ridgeway) said, “it was a fantastic result,
our girls are still competing as Ridgeway Gym Club gymnasts
at the moment without any specialist equipment, but as soon
as our facility is open in September they will be able to
improve even further. If these exceptional girls can perform
at the highest level, against the regions top gymnasts now,
just imagine what they will be able to achieve when they
can train properly?”
