Courtney and Carla find the top level – June 2004

Courtney Hows and Carla Williams both eight years old and training at the Esprit Academy in the io Centre Radway Road, Stratton St Margaret competed in their first ever ‘LEVELS’ artistic gymnastic competition and really made their mark, coming second and fourth respectively, in their age group.

The Wiltshire Levels competition held at the lottery funded Wiltshire School of Gymnastics in Melksham, is usually dominated by the host club and this year was no exception, except of course for the two young dynamo’s from Esprit. They both performed to exceptionally high standards, between them recording the highest marks in the vault, bar and floor with only their bar routines settling the final placings.

Coach Katy Smith said afterwards, “I was very pleased and extremely proud of both these young gymnasts, they performed to exceptionally high standards and held their own against very stiff competition. It does prove however how important it is to have high quality training facilities and Melksham have the best there is. I have already told our management that it is essential we have a bar installed over our pit for our gymnasts to practice and they have assured me it will be done immediately. So next time I will be asking even more of these two exceptional young gymnasts and I am sure that, as usual, they will not disappoint.
