A review of Esprit’s competition success in 2004 for our Artistic gymnasts and what to look forward to in 2005 – by Katy Smith
March – Esprit were at the County Club Grades, Melksham and produced a clean sweep of medals with 10 gymnasts earning 8 medals between them and those that didn’t win medals couldn’t because team mates had already won them! The medallist were – Gold, Ellena Foxwell, Silver, Hayley Thomas, Bronze, Georgia Clements Distinctions for Jessica Shimwell & Hannah Curtis. Gold for Ellie Barrett, Gold for Victoria Sutton, Silver for Erin Milroy, Bronze for Daisy Rolt
and Silver for Carla Williams.
June –was the County Levels, Melksham and Esprit only 2 entrants really put the club on the map in this high level competition against probably the best gymnasts in the South West. Courtney Hows came 2nd and Carla Williams 4th winning every piece of apparatus between them, except bars.
July – was on to the Regional Club Grades, Poole where every single Esprit gymnast passed, many a year earlier than they should! Those that passed were: Eleanor Young, Jessica Shimwell, Hannah Curtis, Georgia Clements, Hayley Thomas, Ellena Foxwell, Erin Lucas, Victoria Sutton, Daisy Rolt, Emily Upshall and Ellie Barratt achieved distinction at Grade 5, well done all.
October – It was on to the Bristol Invitational Competition, Forest of Dean designed to test the best gymnasts in the region. Again Esprit showed how quickly their gymnasts are proving themselves, taking many of the medals on offer with Gold for Erin Milroy, Silver for Victoria Sutton, Gold for Daisy Rolt and Gold for Emily Upshall
November – Esprit sent all of its competition squad gymnasts for Wiltshire Squad Trials and every single gymnast was selected, showing the quality there is throughout Esprit
November – Some of Esprit’s newer squad gymnasts were put through their paces at the County Grades and proved yet again the strength in depth there is at the club with Gold for Abbie MacKenzie, 4th for Eva Maddison, 5th for Ellie Hussey and a Gold for Matilda Meers
January 2005 – South West squad trials for selected gymnasts – the South West Squad is probably the strongest in the country and 3 of our girls were asked to trial for a place. Victoria Sutton and Jessica Shimwell only just missed out on one of the coveted places, but it was elation for Courtney Hows who was asked to join this elite group from the best gymnastic clubs in the South West of England. A fantastic achievement, well done Courtney, Victoria and Jessica you are great ambassadors for the club, we are all very proud of you.
A fantastic first year and a set of results that probably makes us the most successful club in the county.
