Esprit girls impress on
International Debut
Top
Swindon Gymnastic Club, Esprit has been impressive in
its incredible success at Gymnastic competitions throughout
the country since its launch in January 2004. Already
boasting gymnasts in the Welsh and British gymnastic squads.
However it was yet to be tested against gymnasts in Europe
and the rest of the world, which is why after trials at
the academy, it took three of its top performers to the
St Helens International Rhythmic Gymnastics tournament
in Wigan last weekend.
With
competitors from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Holland,
Latvia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, the Ukraine,
Wales and of course England, it was going to be the greatest
test yet for Welsh squad member Harriet Evans and GB squad
members Laura Halford and Jade Faulkner.
All
three performed excellent routines with both Jade and
Laura qualifying 4 each for the Sunday finals. Both lived
up to their own exceptionally high standards, which has
seen both girls recently selected for the Great Britain
Squad, finishing with very impressive scores. The best
of which came from Jade Faulkner (12), who performed an
incredibly difficult Rope routine to secure the Bronze
medal in her age group.
Esprit
spokesperson, Mark Hows said, “Jade’s result,
against very strong opposition from some of the best rhythmic
nations in the world, was an incredible feat, especially
as it was her International debut. Esprit is working hard
to ensure the town is represented at the 2012 Olympics
in London and I wouldn’t bet against at least one
of these exceptional young athletes being there”.
And
just to prove Esprit is serious about the future, their
very youngest competition gymnasts, got a taste of what
it’s like to be a champion gymnast. Amie Shave (8),
Rhianna Bryon (7) and Alice telling (7) all competed at
the Wiltshire County Floor & Vault competition in
Melksham and put down their own markers for the future.
Rhianna putting in a great performance to claim overall
Bronze and Alice claiming a fantastic Gold medal for her
superb floor and vault routines.
Hows
concluded, “we have always said Swindon has a wealth
of gymnastic talent and to have such strength in depth,
throughout the club, is testament to this. It is likely
Esprit will continue as one of the country’s top
clubs for many years to come”.
