No Early Bath for Esprit
Gymnasts
The
gymnasts of Stratton St Margaret based club Esprit, are
used to travelling the country competing at their favourite
sport, so they were pleased they only had a short trip
recently to compete in the Bath Rhythmic Gymnastic open
at the impressive university of Bath.
However they didn’t let the short trip stop them
putting in some exceptional performances against some
of the very best gymnasts from all over the country.
First
to perform was up and coming youngster Gabriella Caruso
(8) who showed everyone her massive potential by taking
GOLD in Hoop, Silver in Free and a fantastic GOLD in the
all around competition. In the under 9 section Alicia
Veveris won GOLD in Free with Maya Lucas taking the Silver
in Hoop, however it was Alicia that took the well deserved
Silver in the all around competition.
Next
up was Esprit’s Welsh National gymnasts turn to
show their style in the under 10 section and neither disappointed
with Welsh And GB squad member Laura Halford taking the
verdict in the all around competition, with another sparkling
GOLD ahead of fellow Welsh team-mate Harriet Evans, who
took a great Bronze in the all around. In the apparatus
competition the girls continued to shine with Laura taking
Silver in Hoop and Gold in Rope and Harriett Bronze in
Hoop and Silver in Rope.
In
the under 11’s Clarice Saloyedoff put in a solid
performance to win Bronze in Rope and Gemma Rand matched
her all the way with Bronze in Ball in the under 12’s.
Last up was Great Britain and Esprit’s Jade Faulkner
in the under 13 section, who cemented her ranking as one
of the best gymnasts of her age in the country by winning
no less than 4 Bronze medals in Rope, Hoop, Clubs and
of course the overall competition.
A
successful day was made even more special by Olympic Gold
medallist Jason Gardener arriving to meet the girls and
hand out their hard won medals along with the deputy Major
of Bath. HTV news covered the day’s proceedings
and Esprit’s girls showed the entire region the
high standards of gymnastics now being produced by Swindon’s
elite performers.
“It
was a short trip along the M4, but yet again, very successful”,
said Esprit spokesperson Mark Hows, “it was nice
to see our girls compete so well against the best gymnasts
in the region and to give such a good account of themselves
in front of the TV cameras, which always add even more
pressure than usual”.
